When relaxing on holiday, your next property deal might be far from your mind, but that wasn’t the case for one of our recent buyers. Between discussing whether it was a beach or pool day, where to head for dinner, and whether it was an acceptable hour to enjoy a cocktail, one savvy purchaser reached out to our team with the hope of buying one of our auction properties.
After their initial enquiry on Monday morning, the Auction House Sussex and Hampshire team remained in contact with the buyer throughout the day, discussing the prospect of submitting a post auction offer to purchase the property. An offer was made just before close of business on Monday, and by 11am on Tuesday morning it had been accepted.
One of the clear benefits of buying and selling at auction is the speed of sale, and this property purchase was no exception. By lunchtime on the Wednesday, contracts were exchanged and despite the early hour, it was celebratory cocktail time for both our buyer and vendor, as a successful deal had been made.
This is a perfect example of the ease of buying and selling under auction conditions. On this occasion, working with conveyancers at ease with the auction process, video call property viewings and finally, our authority as auctioneers to sign and exchange contracts on behalf of both buyer and seller meant this sale could go ahead with ease, despite the fact one party was out of the country at the time.
In this instance, we negotiated a post auction sale, however, even on auction day there are various ways for buyers to place their bids, regardless of their geographical location. In both our livestream regional auctions and national online auctions, prospective buyers can submit bids online from anywhere with an internet connection. There is also the option to bid over the phone, or by proxy, which involves buyers submitting their maximum bid and either a member of our team, or the online system, bidding on their behalf to secure the property.
Kate Middleton-Paine, a Negotiator for Auction House Sussex and Hampshire, commented: “We pride ourselves on providing a personalised, stress-free service to all our buyers and vendors, and this negotiation was another example of that”.
“As the buyer was out of the country, the fact that we were able to facilitate video viewings, work with other professionals familiar with the auction process and the terms of the auction contract, were fundamental to a successful deal being made - we’re pleased we were able to make it happen for both parties”.
