Going, going... for 10 years!
This June, Auction House Scotland is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The company was established in 2013 by property investor Ross Harper as part of the wider Auction House UK franchise, which had been in operation since 2007, and has since grown to be one of Scotland’s longest-running property auctioneers. To date, the business has sold over 1,800 lots and held 74 auctions, with an impressive success rate of 77% and more than £119.7m raised!
The Scottish branch is one of 27 Auction House teams across the country, which together, form the UK’s most successful residential property auctioneer brand delivering more than 200 auctions annually.
Auction House Scotland’s Director, Mandi Cooper, has been with the business from the very beginning and reflects on how the company has evolved over the last decade:
“The fast-paced nature of an auction house has made the last 10 years feel like a whirlwind. From flats to family homes, police boxes to pubs, castles to churches, and reservoirs to retail units, we’ve sold every type of property imaginable – which is one of the wonders of property auction!
We held our very first in-room auction in the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow in 2013 and the buzz of the room was electric. It was all still relatively new back then and auction was not common practice. Property auctions had existed in England for many years, but in Scotland there was still a mist of uncertainty surrounding the auction process. We made it our mission to demystify this, so more people could discover the benefits of buying and selling at auction.
Over the past decade, we have built up an extensive knowledge of the property auction market, and the process and detail required to deliver the best results for all our clients. This is reflected in the phenomenal results we have delivered over the past 10 years, now achieving an average sold success rate of over 90% at our auction sales.
The close workings of our team is another major factor in our success. From valuers to marketing, sales to accounts, everyone plays a very important part in the business and all share the common goal of acheiving the best results for our clients.
Looking ahead to the future, we continue to strive to demystify the auction process. We’re now seeing a greater variety of buyers and sellers using our services, from first-time buyers to downsizers. Auction is being seen less as a market only for investors and developers in search of properties for renovation.
The use of online auctions will also continue to grow, enabling more buyers and sellers across the UK (and the world) to bid at auction. We’re proud to be one of the few property auctioneers in the UK that operates a hybrid auction, where people can attend to bid in the room or watch via livestream on our website and bid online, by telephone or proxy. This has allowed us to stand out from the crowd, and alongside our weekly National Online Auctions, gives our clients the greatest flexibility when it comes to buying and selling property.
With so much to offer as a business, we’re really excited for what the next 10 years has in store!”
