The historic Grade II listed building is set to go under the auction hammer.
Workington’s historic Trades Hall Lodge will be auctioned off this month, with a guide price of £25,000.
Dating back to the nineteenth century, the Grade II-listed building on Finkle Street has become a popular landmark in the town centre, easily recognised for its decorative doorways and unique keystones carved into the shape of heads.
On August 31st, Auction House Cumbria will host a public auction at The Halston Hotel in Carlisle, where the one-story, detached property will be sold to the highest bidder.
Trades Hall Lodge is advertised as a unique opportunity for any investor looking to take on a commercial development project.
The seller commented: “The property has most recently served as office accommodation but is suitable for a variety of uses subject to planning consent.”
Internally the building measures 378 square metres, and is currently set up with a kitchen area, office space, and restroom.
First listed in 1985, the building has been recognised for its special architectural interest. All original features have been carefully maintained, and the sash windows with unique arched surrounds can still be admired today.
Its history can be linked to the Trades Hall Association and Social Club – a working men’s club established in the 1950’s. The Club still stands and remains popular, regularly hosting themed events and live music in town.
Located directly on Finkle Street, a pedestrianised shopping street in the centre of Workington, the property is just a short distance from prime retail space in the town centre.
Workington enjoys one of the busiest and most vibrant high streets in West Cumbria, and just a 5-minute walk from Trades Hall Lodge is Washington Square – a £50 million shopping mall first opened in 2006. As one of the only shopping centres in the UK with 100% occupancy rates, Washington Square offers a great mix of local shops and national chains.
Trades Hall Lodge could also take advantage of the direct foot traffic from Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre, which hosts an extensive programme of events and operates a bustling café six days a week.
With its convenient location on a popular and busy street, Trades Hall Lodge offers a fantastic development opportunity for one lucky bidder.
Trades Hall Lodge goes up for sale by public auction with Auction House Cumbria on Thursday, 31st August. For more information, including viewing sessions and legal packs, contact the Auction House Cumbria team on 01228 510 552.
